President’s Message – June 2018

It’s June and our new festival website is online!  A special thanks to our webmaster Trevor Moyer who toiled relentlessly to ensure that the transition was smooth. As well a special thank you to Doug Fetherston for populating all the various fields required. A stellar job by the both of you.

It is such a pleasure to honour our Vancouver Island Blues Musicians for Summertime Blues 2018. Showcasing our talent has long been an idea whose time has come.  We have world class entertainers who are in demand all over the world.  Currently Blue Moon Marquee is in Italy entertaining and getting practised up for their presence at Summertime Blues.  So yes! International stars.  As well Layla Zoe has performed in Europe for many years and is returning to her home town for Summertime Blues.  Welcome back Layla. Come and enjoy the incredible talent that Vancouver Island has to offer. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your musical horizons and support our Blues Community.

Our venue for Summertime Blues continues to be Maffeo Sutton Park located right on the waterfront in downtown Nanaimo. We are returning to the identical format as last year.  Enhanced stage, enhanced sound and enhanced lighting.  This makes for an amazing festival experience. Increased artisans, more food vendors and our relaxed atmosphere with adult libation anywhere in our enclosed venue.

And please don’t forget our after hours Blues at the Queens on both Friday night and Saturday night right after the festival.  Your wristband gets you in at no charge.  Just an added value benefit for our supporters of Summertime Blues 2018.

POSTPONED! 2018 Fundraiser!

Due to the unfortunate sudden passing of Jason Buie, one of our featured artists for our fundraiser, we will be rescheduling our event. Our sincere condolences go out to Jason’s family.

Please stay tuned for further information on the fundraiser, featuring Steve Kozak and TBA.  Our annual fundraiser is a popular event and features a silent auction. If you can donate something to the silent auction that would be fantastic. The show will be at the Beban Auditorium. For more info on the artists, please check out their websites.
